Review: Feng Wei Wee

Along the busy street of Wilson in San Juan is a new Taiwanese restaurant called Feng Wei Wee. Eloisa and I just came from a Zumba class at the top of Madison Square Building and were looking for somewhere good to eat, having just burned a couple of calories. We didn’t feel like going far to hunt for a good restaurant so we decided to give Feng Wei Wee a try. A couple of tables were already occupied and the place looked tempting enough.

It smelled so Chinese restaurant when we entered. You know what I mean.

Feng Wei Wee was bright and clean, just as it should be since it’s new. I didn’t find the chairs comfy and the noise level inside Feng Wei Wee can become intolerable when the place is packed. The restaurant could also use a better exhaust fan.

Here are what we ordered: Taiwan Fried Rice (P250, good for 2-3 pax), 3 Cups Frog Legs (P280, good for 2-3 pax), Crispy Fried Squid in Lemon Sauce (P280, good for 2-3 pax), and Steamed Pork (P140, good for 2 pax).

The Taiwan Fried Rice was really good. The conpoy (dried scallops) was crunchy and when bitten, gives a sudden burst of flavor which was truly delightful. Eloisa liked how the 3 Cups Frog Legs was cooked but it was nothing special in terms of texture and taste. It was my first time to taste frog legs and I found it okay. Nothing spectacular. The Crisply Friend Squid in Lemon Sauce was so-so. It was cooked and flavored in the typical style. I liked the Steamed Pork. It looks disgusting in the photo but the meat is tightly packed and heavy on the stomach. It was perfectly cooked and the texture was consistent.

Feng Wei Wee has a little nook where they sell Taiwanese ingredients and sweets.

Will we go back to Feng Wei Wee? Yes! We will go back because of their Taiwanese Fried Rice. Maybe their other viands are better so we will try those.
