Fruiteamix is a small shop but it looks bright and cheerful. I don’t know when they opened but their service was very slow when I went there and there were only a few customers there. (more…)

Konbini Store is a Japanese grocery. It sells candies, chocolates, junk food, instant noodles, ingredients, beverages, ice cream, and more at exorbitant prices. If you want to shop Japanese food, go to Little Tokyo instead. The groceries there like Sakura and Chotto Stop are much much cheaper and has much to offer. Even though Konbini is pricier, folks who live in San Juan shop there because it’s more convenient. The Greenhills residents are rich too so the price probably doesn’t matter much to them. (more…)

Well I’m not sure if it’s the newest but I’m willing to bet the concept is new here. My friend and I decided were looking for desserts after having dinner at B & T. We were driving along Connecticut St. in Greenhills when we saw a nice new building. We were about to enter White Hat but noticed that there were more shops on the 2nd floor so we decided to explore. We were enticed by the bright and colorful interior so we decided to try Cold Layers. (more…)

Le Ching Too - a 2nd branch in Greenhills

Le Ching is a Chinese fastfood restaurant which serves cheap dimsum. Their popular dishes include Steam Beef Brisket, Taosi Spareribs, Steam Chicken with Mushroom, and Steam Asado Pork. All their dimsums cost less than P100 but if you want them as rice toppings it will only cost you P128. My personal favorite is Chicken Mushroom Rice (P128). It is a very simple rice topping but the serving is generous. The chicken is simply marinated with a hint of sesame oil. If Le Ching’s dishes are that simple, why are they so popular, you ask. The secret is in the sauce. More accurately, it’s in the chili sauce.

The chili sauce is composed of vegetable oil (?), crispy garlic flakes, and crispy chili. Without the sauce, the dimsums are bland but still eatable. As an added bonus, you can get free refills on the chili sauce.

If you haven’t been to Le Ching, find time to do so and make sure to eat your dimsum with the special chili sauce. Your life wouldn’t be complete without the Le Ching experience.

I’ve always wanted to try JT’s Manukan Grille because of the feedback I’ve heard about the restaurant’s Chicken Inasal. I was finally able to a month ago. I was with Fritz, Faith, Lorraine, and Jay and we decided to eat out dinner there.

JT’s is a carenderia-type eatery. Totally no frills. The only decor are the film posters of JT’s owner Joel Torre, an acclaimed actor who hails from Ilocos.

I ordered Pecho (P88) which is chicken breast and wings, and rice. I liked it. The chicken was fresh and tender and the marinade didn’t hide the fowl. My only gripe is that the meal doesn’t come with unlimited inasal oil. An extra small order of it is P15. I also ordered Diet Coke which only costs P35 if I’m not mistaken.

Pecho

I didn’t take much photos of the place because I only had my phone camera with me.

I was satisfied with what I ate and I think I might come back when I have a craving for chicken inasal.

Along the busy street of Wilson in San Juan is a new Taiwanese restaurant called Feng Wei Wee. Eloisa and I just came from a Zumba class at the top of Madison Square Building and were looking for somewhere good to eat, having just burned a couple of calories. We didn’t feel like going far to hunt for a good restaurant so we decided to give Feng Wei Wee a try. A couple of tables were already occupied and the place looked tempting enough.

inside B&T

The feel of B&T Mexican Kitchen is festive. It’s bright, cozy, large, and very colorful. Only indoor dining is offered but that’s a good thing because Ortigas Avenue isn’t exactly pollution-free and B&T is at the same level of the parking garage. Sekai Building, where B&T is located, has a parking capacity for 20 cars (my estimate). Since B&T shares the building with other establishments, parking during peak hours might be a bit hard. However, waiting for a spot is worth it in my opinion.

Rating: ★★★★☆

Service

Since I was there during their opening, I’m not sure if the restaurant is self service or there is a wait staff. I noticed though that there were a lot of kitchen help. Customers can watch their food being prepared so they can be sure it’s really clean.

review

B&T staff preparing orders

The food kept on piling on out table and the service is fast. The staff needs to brush up on what B&T offers because I had a lot of questions that time and they didn’t know the answers to most of them.

Rating: ★★★½☆

Food and Price

I have never been to Ristras, another Mexican restaurant getting a lot of raves, but I suspect they are on their toes because B&T Mexican Kitchen could give them a run for their money. I’ll visit Ristras soon for a comparison but from what I’ve heard, the two restaurants are similar. For now I’ll just review B&T’s fares for their own merits.

imported beers

B&T Mexican Kitchen offers a wide selection and there are many options per dish. They import a lot of their ingredients and give off an authentic taqueria feel. Besides the usual Mexican dishes, B & T sell imported beers such as Don Equis and Bohemia Clasica.

I like B&T’s Quesadilla‘s cheesy goodness. I wasn’t able to finish mine but I took about 2/3s home and it was still delicious the day after even if the shell became a bit tough to chew. You can choose the meat and side dish to go with it and the price can range from P290 to P350.

Soft Tacos

I find their taco Taco just so-so but it comes with 4 kinds of dips: salsa, hot sauce, garlic, and sour cream. The price ranges from P290 to P350 depending on the meat and side dish. This dish can be shared by 2 people.

food review

9 Layer Dip Nachos

The 9 Layer Dip Nachos (P290) is a must-have. The mind-melting dip consists of pico de gallo, sour cream, three cheese, jalapeno, 2 kinds of beans, corn, tomatoes, cilantro, and guacamole. The dip is huge and can be shared by 4 people.

food review

Barbacoa

Finally, my favorite! I love love love their Barbacoa burrito (P32o). It’s huge and comes with salsa and sour cream dips. The meat is so tender and the burrito itself is so flavorful. I love the combination of the rice, corn, beans and cilantro. The next time I go to B&T this will be my order.

food review

Horchata

The drink we were given is the traditional Mexican Horchata (P50). I drank this a lot back when I lived in California and B&T’s version was disappointing for me. It needed more cinnamon. I prefer my horchata sweeter and nuttier.

B&T’s pricing might appear high but most dishes are good for sharing so please, don’t be intimidated. You should also bring someone to share the food with because it’s almost impossible to finish them alone.

Rating: ★★★★☆

I will definitely go back to B&T Mexican Kitchen. In fact, I’m drooling just thinking about the Barbacoa burrito right now. Why not see for youself if it’s just as good as I say?
